Alabama A&M University Welcomes Largest Freshman Class in School's History
"Start Here, Go Anywhere." This inspiring motto defines the journey for over 2,000 freshmen embarking on their educational path at Alabama A&M University this week. This remarkable incoming class, the largest in the university's history, hails from 35 states and seven countries.
As a prominent Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in north Alabama, A&M University proudly shares that it received an unprecedented surge in applications, totaling 15,000—a remarkable 30 percent increase compared to the previous recruitment cycle. Furthermore, the university noted a noteworthy 16% rise in transfer applications. President Daniel K. Wims expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We’re excited to welcome this class to Alabama A&M University. With their individual strengths, backgrounds, and aspirations, these students are already making their mark on the AAMU story. We’re committed to preparing them for success in their careers and in life. Students and families are choosing Alabama A&M in record numbers because of that commitment and the return on investment realized by those who come from The Hill."
One of the incoming freshmen, Jay Mayes, radiates excitement for the opportunity. He shared, "[I'm] blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of one of the biggest classes, one of the biggest freshman classes at AAMU, and it makes me feel like I'm already a part of history, and I just got here."
Freshman Jaeden Cleveland expressed positivity about her classes, mentioning, "My classes are going great actually. The professor, she's very kind, very welcoming."
Jaylon Todd, another new student, eagerly anticipates the vibrant experience Alabama A&M promises. "Oh, I know it's going to be so fun. Like the football games, all the sports. I'm going to be there."
